Just Bought iPad ?

Congratulations for becoming the proud owner of iPad. This is an awesome devicee. It can make browsing much more easy.  Millions of apps are available for download for both productivity and fun. You can enjoy music and other media. In case you  are new to iPad, you would first need to set up the device.


To set up the iPad you will require

A Computer

Wireless connection

Latest version of iTunes

iTunes account


and of course, you already have iPad.




* Take out the iPad from its box and using the USB connector connect it to your computer. You may find your USB port on the  back or front side of your computer.

* You are ready to transfer music or other media to your iPad from your computer. Open up iTunes and drag and drop the media  you want on your iPad.


* When the transferring of files is over, disconnect/unplug your iPad from the computer and start playing the media.


Locate the power button in the top right and push it.


To unlock the iPad slide your finger from where the arrow starts across to the right. You will find several icons. Start  exploring and everything you can do on the iPad is by touch.


iPad has an interesting feature. If you hold it horizontally you can have a wide screen or if you turn it vertically it will  take you back to the standard view.

With a full charge your iPad will run for around 10 hours.

Once you feel comfortable operating with your device you can connect it to a wi-fi and start browsing. You may set up email  account also.

Apple iPad does not come with a user manual.  I guess these days most of the gadget buyers do not pay much attention to the  user manuals. 'Exploring is exciting' seems to be the motto of many. It is not very hard to find out the features, tricks,  functions, operation and capabilities on your own with out the help of any manual.


To maximize the functions of your gadgets perhaps reading manuals is the only way. Most of the users do not find it difficult to go ahead using their gadget with out referring to the manual but for some certainly need manual to start using their  devices.

Slideshow : On the lock screen bottom right corner you can find an icon of a photo. Simply, press that button and your iPad  will start playing the slide show of the images.



Shut Down Applications : To do this, double tap on the home button and then press hold one app. Finally tap the red circle in the to close them.

Screenshot : to take a picture of the current screen, hold down the home button and then press 'power' button.

Accidental Closure Of Applications : You may accidentally close an application if you tap the home button unwontedly. To  avoid this press and hold down the home button for a couple of seconds after loading the application that should not get  closed accidentally.

Connecting To Wi-Fi


You just purchased your iPad and very soon you would require to connect it to the internet through a Wi-Fi for browsing, watching videos or playing games, downloading apps just like a computer.

To do this you need to connect iPad to a Wi-fi network. How to connect your iPad to a Wi-fi network ?


To do this, Switch on your iPad and from the iPad home screen go to 'settings' icon.

Select 'Network' in the settings screen.

Then slide the Wi-fi button to "On". iPad will then start searching for networks available nearby. It will show you the networks available.

You will see public and private networks depending on where you are. If you are in a coffee shop or hotel lobby you might see a public network. This is a public network. To connect to this, just tap the network. You should keep in mind the point that  if you will not be secure if you connect to a public network.



If you are at home and trying to connect to your own private home network you will neet to enter a password. Normally that  password can be found on the back of your router. You will be up and running as soon as you enter your password and now you  can use the internet.

Open up a browser and test if the internet connection is working.

Connect to the app store and you have thousands of apps for almost every purpose and fun. Make sure to check and confirm if  the app is paid or free before you start downloading. Or else you will end up paying huge bills unnecessarily.

Using The App Store


If you have just bought iPad and relatively new to using it, one of the things you might do is checking out the app store.  




There are numerous apps listed and it will be very confusing for a new user. One important thing is some apps are free while  for some apps you need to make a payment. If you do not keep this in mind you will end up paying huge bills.

Apple App Store is the first and most successful store. It has over 300,000 apps for the iPad, iTouch and iPhone. Till now it

has over 7 billion downloads. Apps are vetted by Apple for suitability. They all adhere to the design standards.

Start from the main home screen on the iPad to use the app store. when you turn the iPad on this is the screen you start on.


Locate the blue icon that says App Store underneath it. As soon as you launch it you can find main home screen with full of  new apps plus grouped tools like 'tools for top productivity' and editor's choices.







You can also see apps by categories in the top left.

By tapping on one that sounds interesting  you can start viewing it. So if you are new to the game, just try only those that say 'FREE.'

To look at Top Apps, Featured apps the bottom of the store will take you to those respective apps. Or If you use the  Genius  tab it will suggest you apps based on your interest.

You can also begin from "Top Apps For Your New iPad" section on the featured screen. You will find most of the basic apps in  this section.

You can find a search t the top right corner in case you know the name of the app you can do the search.

If you decide to download any app, all you have to do is simply tapping it. You will be required to enter your app store  password. A green button with "INSTALL" on it will appear if you give correct password.

You can see a bar moving across indicating the progress of the download after you go ahead and tap the install the button.

You may then leave the app store and you can find the icon on your home screen. Select the app that you want to start.
